Leadership for accountability is a crucial course in shaping the role of future leaders in the academic setting. In today's schools, educators are held accountable for so much more than ever before. Adequate yearly progress must be making strides in the right direction, or consequences will be put into place. EDLD 5333 allowed us to determine what it means to be a leader, have a vision, and uphold our staff to those standards. During this class I created a mission statement and by doing so I was we able to set standards and goals administratively. This class allowed for me to "mine" for TAKS data and accountability standards according to AYP and AEIS. During this process I was also able to dissect test scores from previous years. Gaining an in-depth view of my campus's various sub groups and scores that can affect the overall status of a campus AYP was very helpful. Often, we are trained during in-service and only glance over the previous years TAKS scores. In leadership for accountability I was able to see the standards, and compare that to how our campus performed. Unfortunately, the campus I am currently employed was only ranked acceptable according to the TEA. There is only one area many that needed to be addressed for this years upcoming TAK's test. Since my enrollment in Leadership Accountability, I have made a couple of recommendations to help improve our campus ranking. Mining for data should be incorporated into teacher’s professional development so that we can get a holistic picture of how we stand as a campus. The class finished up by creating professional development sessions that would help address the areas that were our campus weaknesses. Creating a professional development class for our staff was a very interesting assignment. As an educator I have sat through numerous useless sessions that I have not learned a new skill that will further development my abilities to become an educator at an exemplary campus . I really had to take these experiences into consideration while developing a plan that will keep people actively engaged and interested in the content. Leadership for accountability was a great class to see the administrative side to using data for personal and professional growth.
